ALL-TRACE® DRY COW is launched in the UK!
Trace elements are a critical component of the diet of dairy cows and the dry/transition period is no different. Trace elements and their role as enzymes and antioxidants in the body are intimately involved in many of the key process around calving. Inadequate supply can disrupt calving and reduce profitability through the next lactation. Dairy cows on TMR diets are often fed diets high in polyunsaturated fatty acids to increase energy and forages are often low in vitamins such as vitamin E. This can increase the oxidant stress on the animals which has a direct effect on the animals health and productivity. Trace elements including selenium, manganese, zinc and copper have an important role as part of the bodies antioxidants to reduce oxidant stress.
Many of these trace elements are not stored in the body, so there is a challenge to ensure sufficient daily intakes especially during the dry period when feed intakes can fluctuate. Supplementation methods that are independent of dry matter intake can help to ensure that a consistent and accurate daily supply of trace elements is achieved.
The ALL-TRACE® DRY COW bolus is formulated to deliver a consistent daily supply of trace elements and vitamins for 120 days. Using a bolus ensures accurate supplementation throughout the dry and transition period. The bolus is specifically formulated for the trace element requirements of dry cows. Similarly to other boluses in the ALL-TRACE® range it is an eroding bolus that sits in the reticulum of cow and supplies trace elements and vitamins until the end of it’s active life and it leaves no waste or residue. The bolus supplies copper, cobalt, iodine, manganese, selenium, zinc, vitamin A, vitamin D3 and vitamin E, all of which are crucial for dry cows.
